Don’t Budget is a household budgeting app operated by Legacy Bits LLC (“we”, “us”). This policy explains what information the Don’t Budget apps and dontbudget.com collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. In short: we collect what the app needs to keep your household’s envelopes, we do not sell your information, we do not show ads, and we do not use third-party analytics or tracking.
Information you give us
- Account details. Your email address, and the name and email address Apple or Google share when you sign in with them. If you use Sign in with Apple’s “Hide My Email”, we receive the relay address, not your real one. You can also set a display name.
- Your household’s budget. Team names and time zones, budgets and categories, funding and bill schedules, purchases you log, notes, splits, and the invites you send.
- Messages to us. Anything you send to support, and your email address so we can reply.
Information from your bank, through Plaid
Connecting a bank is optional. If you do, you sign in to your bank through Plaid Inc., and Plaid shares the following with us for the accounts you choose:
- Accounts: account name, type, the last four digits of the account number, current balance and credit limit.
- Transactions: amount, date, merchant name and description, category, merchant logo, whether it is pending, and, when the bank provides it, where the purchase was made (street address, city, region, postal code and map coordinates).
We never see or store your bank username or password. Plaid gives us an access token for the connection, which we keep encrypted and use only to fetch new transactions. Plaid’s handling of your information is described in the Plaid End User Privacy Policy. Don’t Budget only reads your accounts; it cannot move money.
Location
Don’t Budget does not collect your device’s location, and it never asks for location permission. When a transaction includes the address where a purchase was made, the iPhone app may send that address to Apple’s geocoding service, directly from your phone, to place a pin on a map. Maps are provided by Apple Maps.
How we use information
- To run the app: keep your balances, match bank transactions to purchases you logged, and fund budgets on schedule.
- To sign you in, including emailing you one-time sign-in codes.
- To let the members of your household team see and work on the same budget.
- To answer support requests, keep the service secure, and prevent abuse.
- To meet legal obligations.
We do not sell or rent your information, use it for advertising, or share it with data brokers.
Who can see your information
Your team. Everyone on a household team sees that team’s budgets, purchases and connected bank transactions. Only invite people you want to share your finances with.
Service providers. We use a small number of companies to run Don’t Budget. They process information only on our behalf:
- Supabase, for our database, sign-in and servers.
- Plaid, for bank connections.
- Amazon Web Services, to send sign-in emails and to host dontbudget.com.
- Apple and Google, for Sign in with Apple and Google Sign-In, and Apple for maps and geocoding.
Legal reasons. We may disclose information if the law requires it, to protect the rights, safety or property of our users or others, or as part of a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, in which case this policy will continue to apply to it.

This website sets no cookies and runs no analytics or tracking scripts. Our hosting provider may keep standard server logs, such as IP address, browser type and the pages requested, for security and reliability.
How long we keep information
We keep your information while your account and your team exist. Disconnecting a bank stops new transactions from being fetched; transactions already imported stay part of your team’s history. When a team owner deletes a team, its budgets, purchases, bank connections and transactions are deleted for every member. Deleted information can remain in encrypted backups for a limited time before they are overwritten.
Your choices and rights
- You can edit your display name and your team’s budgets in the app, and disconnect a bank at any time.
- A team owner can delete the team, and everything in it, from Settings.
- You can delete your account in the app, under Settings, Delete account. Teams where you are the only member are deleted with it, including their bank connections; you leave every other team, and what you added there stays for its other members without your name on it.
- To access, correct or export your information, or if you can’t sign in to delete your account, email support@dontbudget.com from the address on your account. We will respond within 30 days.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under local law, such as the right to know what we hold about you. We honor those requests through the same email address and will not treat you differently for making one.
Security
Information is encrypted in transit and at rest with our providers. Access to your household’s data is limited to the members of your team by database rules, and bank access tokens are kept in an encrypted vault. No system is perfectly secure, and we will notify you if a breach affects your information as required by law.
Children
Don’t Budget is for adults managing a household’s money and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from them; if you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page, and tell you in the app or by email before a material change takes effect.
